Extra Sydney flight for Singapore Airlines.
21st Dec 2007
Singapore Airlines will further expand capacity on the Singapore - Sydney route from April, with the progressive introduction of a fourth daily service, making it the first airline to operate 28 weekly flights on this popular route.
Passengers may be confused however, as they will either end up with an A380, a 747 or a 777.
The added frequency, utilizing the new Singapore Airlines Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, will be phased in from April, initially operating on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, before increasing to daily from June. SQ233 will depart Singapore at 0700hrs and arrive in Sydney at 1620hrs. SQ234 will depart Sydney at 1735hrs and arrive in Singapore at 2350hrs, providing shorter connections to later onward departures from Singapore, such as Cape Town, Johannesburg, Rome, Athens, Zurich, Copenhagen, Beijing and Shanghai. However, this flight doesn't solve the problem that there is only one flight a day from Sydney that conveniently connects to London Heathrow.
The 777-300 will be configured in a three-class cabin, with the new wide business class seats. Passengers hunting for the few older business class seats (on which Krisflyer redemptions are only half the number of miles) will have to fight for the few seats on the remaining 747 flights.
