Bmi says it will continue to consider whether to fly out of Heathrow following the start of Open Skies next month. The carrier (Heathrow's second largest) is biding its time as a raft of airlines rush to the airport to take advantage of the Open Skies implementation. In the mean time it is putting its code on all United Airlines' transatlantic services, and also on US Airways flights from Heathrow to Philadelphia, plus Air New Zealand for its Los Angeles-London operations.

Bmi had previously campaigned for years to fly to the US from Heathrow - but it has had a frenetic period integrating the Bmed fleet into its timetable. It is adding Tel Aviv in March and a second Moscow service, with proper full sized mid-haul business class seats.

However bmi has problems with aircraft. It only has three A330s, and only wants to fly this type long-haul. The airline is now scour the globe for second hand Airbus A330s.
